Creating Custom Business Analytics

Table of contents

Details

You can create your own custom Business Analytics (BA) from scratch or you can clone existing BA to modify them. Keep in mind that any edits to our default BA are only temporary and will not be saved so if you find yourself constantly modifying the stock BA you will want to create your own with all of your preferences.

You can open the Business Analytics Explorer via Start->Reports->Business Analytics:

When you click the New button you will then choose from Chart or List and then choose an entity, e.g. Project, Purchase Orders, etc.

Chart

The entity chosen will dictate what grouping options display. You can choose as many groupings as you want for you BA and then set one of them to be the default selection.

You can choose one or two data sets for the BA. Shown below are the options for the Project entity, this list will vary based on entity.

Most of the fields are self-explanatory but here is an explanation of a few. Projected Total Price and Projected Profit are multiplied by the Probability Percentage of the Project Status:

Once you choose a field, you then choose an operator and can also change the color of the data set when creating a Column or Bar chart:

The Filter tab is a query that you can build to suit your needs. Shown below are the default clauses for a Project BA:

List

A list-type BA has three tabs to allow you to create the output desired. On the first tab there is a list of available fields. You can use the arrows to choose which field you want and then use the up/down arrows to put the fields in the order you want.

You can then choose your preferred sorting of the list:

Just as with char-type BA, the Filter tab is a query that you can build to suit your needs. Shown below are the default clauses for a Project BA:
