Source Information

The source Information page contains the data we store when we scrape a manufacturers web site for the product information.  This information is valuable to us because it allows us to easily categorize and classify the product data.  It is also valuable to the user because it can help them organize their product offering in a more logical manner.  Ideally the Sources should be generic descriptions of their products not brand specific.

Source Category

Text field, free form, manufacturer supplied.  Used to identify the main category of the item.  Very useful in website navigation. Ideally should be used to narrow down the focus of the item so it can be easily found by both technical and non-technical users.  Works best if brand names and trademarks are NOT used.  Example: Switchers and Routers

Source Sub-Category

Text field, free form, manufacturer supplied.  Allows more fine tuning of the item.  Example:  Switchers and Routers>>Single Output

Source Type

Text field, free form, manufacturer supplied.  Allows more fine tuning of the item.  Example:  Switchers and Routers>>Single Output>>Digital

Source Sub-Type

Text field, free form, manufacturer supplied.  Allows more fine tuning of the item.  Example:  Switchers and Routers>>Single Output>>Digital>>Video

Source URL

The URL of the final product landing page.

Mfr. Division

Text field.  Add the specific division or business unit that the specific product is part of.  This is handy to separate manufacturers that have different business units and brands under a single manufacturer.  Cisco is a good example of a single brand that operates in many different business units.
