Adding Products and Packages

There are multiple ways to add Products to the PDM.  One way to add Products and/or Packages to a Visio Project is to use the PDM Add Product-Package button in the PDM section of the screen.

notes_50Clicking the page icon will open the Add Product form.  If you want to add a Package, use the arrow section of the button and select “Add Package” from the dropdown menu:

The Add Product form

Allows you to filter using tabs to find the Product(s) you want to add to the Project.  You can select multiple Products to be added at one time to your Project. You can also assign the Location and/or Zone as well.

Add Package

If you chose to add a Package with the dropdown arrow, the Add Package form will open.  This form allows you to choose a Package to add to the Project as well as a place for you to select your Location and/or System for the Package.

Product in PDM

Another way to add Products or Packages to the PDM is to right-click a Product in the PDM and select Add->Product (or Package).

notes_50In the methods described above, adding a product to the PDM does not automatically add a Product shape to any of the drawing pages.

Drag and Drop #1

Another way to add Products to the PDM is to add a shape to the project on one of the Drawing Pages.  You can do this a few different ways.  The first way is to drag a stencil from the Stencil Tree over to a Drawing Page:

You will then be prompted to select a Product from your database:

The default shape for that page type will drop on the page and the Product will be added to the PDM.

notes_50The default shape will drop for a particular page type unless you have specifically assigned a particular shape to drop for that Product.  You can assign a specific shape to drop for a particular page type on the Visualizations tab in the Product Properties for a Product.

Drag and Drop #2

You can also drag over a particular shape to the drawing page instead of dragging the stencil if you prefer.  You can do this from the names displayed the stencil, or if you have the stencil docked, you can drag the image of the shape to the page:

Drag and Drop #3

To get shapes on the drawing page for Products already in your PDM, you simply have to drag the Product from the PDM to a drawing page (use the grey block next to each Product):

notes_50Notice that the Visio icon will display in the far left column in the PDM to indicate that the Product is on the selected drawing page.
